It was a fun read- something that can easily be put down and picked back up and not lose sight of the characters or the plot. I enjoyed it.
Carol's characters remind me of Nora Roberts' characters. They have this mature, easy-going familiarity about them that can make instant friends with complete strangers. This was more of a mystery with some thrilling edge of your seat moments and a little bit of romance thrown in! It definitely makes older men seem yummy? And You'll never guess who the killer is. I didn't.
I loved it. I've even gone back and reread parts of it. The cast of characters are fleshed out and bring the story alive. From the main characters, Jake and Taylor, to the supporting cast, too numerous to mention.

This story grabs you at page one and doesn't let go until the final page. It's not suspense all the time. There's a nice blend of humor, getting to know the other characters and the location. A three dimensional story.

This book has everything adventure, mystery, love and best of all a treasure hunt! Because the author is the wife of a coast guard officer, she really knows her stuff. You can tell from the wonderful descriptions of the setting in Rock Harbor to the boats, flags and helicopters.

The plot was enjoyable and characters well drawn. Some of the writing and descriptions were confusing, as if bits of info that was supposed to be there wasn't.
This was a real thriller full of twists and turns! The reader is kept in suspense until the very end.
This book grabbed me as soon as I was introduced to Taylor Campbell, a pint-sized commander with the U.S. Coast Guard who knows how to give orders, get a mission done, and stay cool under fire. When ex-SEAL investigator Jake Solomon enters the scene, secretly assigned to keep her alive while hiding his true identify from her, the plot deepens with romance and mystery. The interplay and pacing of the suspense with a growing love story (complete with good sexy scenes) is just right, and the setting in a town on the coast of Texas is so real you can feel the killer humidity and smell the beer in local hangouts. At the exciting climax (no spoiler alert 'cause I'm not giving anything away), Taylor's series of changing emotions ring true, and for me this was especially satisfying.
