"Here is Hitler, here is the Pope, and here is my place for you."

There's a handful or less people you meet in life who truly change you. Who truly open your eyes to the world around you and to real life. This is a story of one of those people.

William (Bill) Cannon is a man of amazing talent and his writing is so incredibly unique much like his teaching style. In this story, Frank Boxer a not so fictional teacher at a not so fictional Pines School and Duncan his Dog and his copilot are on quite the wild ride nearing the end of a tragically too damn short professional career at this amazing but slowly fading school. There are Two POVs; The Narrator is Frank himself, who drives the plot and serves as the primary source for the novels story and development. Also, not to be overlooked and quite frankly to be seriously read (over and over again) is the more comical and also extremely crass yet poetic, philosophic and prophetic all in one point of view (in a different font); that of Duncan, Frank's right hand Dachshund. Both of these styles are heartwarming and genuine, they trap you in the world of the pines and the real stories of Frank and Dunk.

DO NOT INGORE HIS MUSICAL CUES! When he tells you to "cue" or to "play" a song I strongly advise you to do it! You can thank me later. These make the reading experience much greater, help to set mood and tone. His writings can be mulled over for days and that’s a good thing. This book is not a one and done read. It has character and value you hardly find in today's social climate. It's real, it's visceral and it makes you think. It's truly brilliant.

Yes, in many ways this book is a passion project. However, in so many other and more important ways it’s a book that needed to be written of a not so fantastical school whose inner value and core ideals have been scattered to the wind like the desecrated ashes of a career cut short by "The Man". I empathize with Frank and I know the world is worse off without his musings. but his high points are immortalized here if only you cared to seek them.

The student and classroom can only as thoughtful as the teacher inside it. and the classrooms of Pines are less thoughtful without its resident Socrates. The infamous, zany, loony, REAL HUMAN teacher who may have went against the grain, who wasn't just a vessel for the manure that is shoveled to us today by some kind of conveyer belt of teachers who are all the same in a relative way. I miss the times and cherish the memories. This book is one I will carry with me wherever I go just like the memories and the dreams that were shared and created in his classroom. You pulled me out of my shell Bill. you made me acutely aware of the world around me. You forced me to think for myself (sometimes against my will). But when the music fades and the curtains fall, when everything else is stripped away I know that I wouldn't trade the time I spent with you for the world. This book serves to testify on the young and naive kid who walked into your classroom asking about the 8 points on the final, or who wouldn't just call you Bill (a product of the system of education) to the man who would stroll to the gates Hell and back just for a few more minutes after the bell to sit and to hear what you had to say to the world.

Running to Duncan Field edition by WB Cannon Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I love the style of writing, and it was so hard to put the book down!
This book was amazing!! A great read!! Loved every minute of it... am now reading it for a second time....
Highly recommend this book!!!
This is a book that you really can not put down once you start reading it. I personally can relate to this book and I would definitely recommend family and friends to read this story!
Take a look, count to three, in a world of your imagination. Buy this book! A novel novel.
Excellent read. A commentary on the public education system and life in general, this book made me think long and hard about the world and my place in it. I would highly recommend for anyone who wants to open their minds to the world around them
It's not that I hate. I've not been able to read it. I paid for it. It was never delivered to my . I don't know where it went. So.....when decides to deliver it to my and I read it, I will then give a real review.
Loved the book, Mr. Cannon has different way of writing. It took a few pages to understand that there are a lot of characters in the book, however, after that understanding, it was an easy read with interesting characters. It is a good reminder that there is always something going on behind closed doors and what we may perceive as the truth, may not be the full story. When it comes to your children, stay involved in the school system and involved with administration. You want to make sure that your child is receiving the education they deserve. Buy the book!
