Blood and Chocolate Annette Curtis Klause Books

Ok going into this novel I thought it was gonna be similar to the movie but read a few comments that said it wasn't. Hmmm... where to start, I love the book more than the movie and thought the movie was ok. Wish I read this sooner, I just couldn't put this down, from watching the movie I was against gabriel but midway he won me over and there where times I had to stop and think, why didn't they stick to the novel. Wish there was a follow up but really interested in what other novels this author has

Blood and Chocolate Annette Curtis Klause Books Reviews

This was one of my favorite books in high school. The author has a way of writing so that you believe these creatures are real and they hide among us. She makes you question where they are and if we ever knew any of these wolves. It's a great read if you love the werewolf story. For people who like the vampire scene, I recommend The Silver Kiss by the same author; Annette Curtis Kaluse. Another amazing story written to make you believe.
I read this book as a teen and I loved it. I read it probably 8-10 times. As a teen, I loved the first guy she was with and really wanted them to work out. I couldn't get past the fact that she was in love with him, so they should be together forever. Because that's how it always works, right? Yet after reading the book several more times, I was a huge fan of Gabriel and Vivian ending up together,

Reading the book now as an adult, I can more clearly see more of the story; I no longer have any tender feelings for the first boy she dates. To me now, he sounds like a loser right from the start. What I love about this book, though, is that it isn't a "your first love is forever, true love conquers all, love is all you need is love" type of book. Vivian has her "star-crossed lovers" romance and finds that stories like that don't really work out. And after they break up, Vivian, like most teens, believes that she can change her ex's opinion of her, they'll get back together and live happily ever after. She goes through the normal heartbreak of a teen romance, but in the end, realizes that he can never understand her and that they would never work out. At the end, Vivian ends up with a man who understands and desires her inner beauty and loves her just as she is.

There are a couple messages you can take away from this book one, which is extremely old-fashioned, is that you should stay with your own kind. I don't see that message as necessarily bad when looked at in the right context, but I prefer the second message, which is that you should stay true to yourself and find someone who understands and loves what you really are. And despite all the romances which tell us otherwise, that can usually be found with "your own kind." I never got the idea from this book that "your kind" was racial in the slightest, but more that your kind are those that share in your lifestyle, beliefs and general outlook on life. This is a much more realistic message to pass on to teens than a "despite the fact that you're totally opposite, love conquers all and life will be easy for you" message that many other teen stores possess.

I wanted to read this book again after the movie (which I love too but only when you don't compare it to the book) showed up on TV a few times in the past months. I didn't want to dig through my boxes in the garage, so I bought the edition a few weeks ago. I did notice just a few formatting/editing issues, but it's not a huge problem.
I actually saw the movie first some time last year. It was the same time I learned it was based on a book by Annette Curtis. The movie was okay..nothing to rave about; not denying credit to the actors. After reading so many great reviews on the book however, I thought I'd give it another chance. I must say that I was very satisfied with the novel. So different than the movie, I should have remembered the fact that the two are usually the opposite. I loved Vivian's story. She's young, still feeling the loss of her father, her pack is on the move and she's looking for something that's been missing since the tragedy from the last town they moved from. She finds what she is looking for in a human boy and the reader (well I was at least) is hoping that it works for them. I won't inlcude spoilers, but let's say that there are enough twists and turns in the book to keep you guessing and before you know it, you're hooked and staying up past your bedtime because you can't put it down.

Blood and Chocolate is a keeper..a favorite that you'll pick up at least once a year to read again!
Don't let them fool you. People will point out that this was published as a young adult book, they'll say it's a book just for kids. They are wrong. Here's the two cents of an almost 30-year-old reader This is an outstanding story. Out of all the books I have read over the last twenty-something years, this is in the top three. Do Not Pass This Book Up!
Realistic characters and an exciting storyline are things I expect from every book, and I will not spend time commending Blood and Chocolate's here. Allow me to instead comment on Ms. Klause's unworldly ability to turn a phrase; there were times I just stopped reading so I could spend a few moments admiring the wording of a sentence. To say she is able to paint a picture with her words is a gross understatement.
Though the phrase 'something for everyone' has been so overused it does not hold the weight that it once did, I will use it for lack of anything better. If you like adventure, there's something for you in Blood and Chocolate. Romance? There are scenes in this book that will curl your toes. For kids or for anyone who can remember being young, the rich coming of age theme is what ties all the other good parts together. And (I might as well continue with the cliches) last but not least, if you like werewolves this is the book for you. A more complete, well-rounded shape shifter culture I have never had the pleasure of reading about. Do yourself a favor, get your hands on a copy of this book.
In this book we have Vivian how is a werewolf hiding in plain sight with the rest of her pack. They all had to move to the city when their old place was burned to the ground. There are twists and turns in this book that you will love hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.
